Adviser Appointments

ADVISER VACANCIES

I’m often asked ‘how do you get to be a county adviser?’ The process seems to be regarded as a bit of a black art – and I think it’s time to change that! County advisers are appointed by the county commissioner – usually following discussion with the outgoing adviser & appropriate division commissioner. What we haven’t done until now is to invite expressions of interest more widely. In future, I hope to advertise these roles to give all guiders an equal chance to be considered. As vacancies do not always arise at a time that fits with newsletter deadlines, the county website will be the main location for vacancy ads but, wherever possible, these will also be included in the newsletter. Do please contact me if you think you might be interested – or if you’d just like to know a little more about what would be involved.

ADVISER VACANCIES

I am currently looking to fill the following county adviser roles. If you would like to be considered for either of them, please let me know by Friday 20 April.

Angela Milln, County Commissioner

County Archivist

Do you:

-Have an interest in the history of Guiding?
-…and an interest in making this accessible to members in all sections?
-Have good organisational skills?
-Have access to storage space which would accommodate the county archives (currently taking up a small area of the outgoing county commissioner’s garage!!)

Then why not think about applying for the role of county archivist? The role will involve:

-Housing and cataloguing the county archives (mainly consisting of log books, photographs, diaries and similar documents dating back through Guiding’s history.
-Finding ways of making the archives accessible to make the history of Guiding more real for members of all ages
-Liaising with the region archivist where appropriate.

The role could be undertaken by an individual or might be suitable as a job share.
