Boating
Note to guiders – this course is open to all members aged 10 and over and you do not have to attend if one of your girls is going – so please offer everyone the chance to come – or come and do the course yourself! Zoe (county boating adviser)
KAYAKING BCU LEVEL 1 COURSE
The county has arranged a BCU level 1 course for Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 April 2006.
Who – The course is open to all guides, senior section members and adult members.
When – Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 April 2006, 9.30am until 5pm. You must attend both days.
Where – At Lakeside Country Park, near Junction 5, M27. Maps will be provided to those attending.
What – You need no prior experience of kayak canoeing but you must be able to swim 50 metres in light clothing. You will have the opportunity to learn how to launch the kayak, paddle forwards and backwards and disembark. You will also learn capsize drill and how to prevent one! If you are successful, you will be awarded your British Canoe Union Kayak One Star award at the end of the two days.
Cost – £36 (non-refundable unless another participant is found) & you will need packed lunch.
Closing date for applications – 17 March 2007.
If you would like to attend please fill in the reply slip attached and send with full payment and a stamped addressed envelope to: Zoe Redmill, 11 Cecil Avenue, Ashurst, Southampton, SO40 7BG. Do not return to your unit guider.
Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis, if you are not lucky enough to get a place your cheque will be returned.
Note for girls: There will be appropriate adult ratios but a guider from your unit may not be attending.

JUBILEE SAILING TRUST TALL SHIP SAILING

This voyage is open to members of the public and is a working holiday. It is open to able bodied and physically disabled people from 16 to 80! Please feel free to book any trip – the 26 July trip is convenient as it starts and ends in Southampton. You are likely to visit France during the trip.

Note to guiders – this weekend is open to all members aged 12-25 but guides must come as a unit with adults, seniors may come alone.
REGION DRAGON BOAT COMPETITION
The county has entered a team into the region dragon boat competition – this competition is only open to guides and senior section in the South West of England.
Who – The weekend is open to all guides aged over 12 on 29 June 2007 & senior section members. Adults are needed to help and are likely to get a go!
When – Friday 29 June to Sunday 1 July 2007
Where – At South Cerney Gloucestershire (camping at Deer Park Cowley). We will arrange transport.
What – You need no prior experience of dragon boating but you must be able to swim 50 metres in light clothing. You will have the opportunity to take part in practice & races cumulating in a final if we make it!
Cost – Non-refundable deposit £15. Total approximately £40 (this will depend on transport arrangements) including food, transport, camping fees and dragon boating activities.
Closing date for applications – 30 April 2007.
Return of forms – if you are a guide – please give to your unit guider with your deposit.
