County Good Service Award
Do you know someone who deserves special recognition for what they do for Guiding in the county? The County Good Service Award is presented to recognise and acknowledge the outstanding contribution and commitment that any member over the age of 18 years has made to the promotion and enhancement of guiding within Hampshire West.

How to apply
Check the nominee meets the criteria for this award.
Complete the County Good Service Award nomination form.
Obtain a minimum of three County Good Service Award supporting information forms.
Send the forms to the Chair of the Awards Committee.
Applications need to be with the Chair of the committee by the 1 February, 1 May or 1 October for consideration at that month’s meeting.

Hampshire West Courage Award
Do you know a girl or Leader who has shown great initiative or responsibility at an incident, overcome personal problems, or shown great commitment to others over a period of time (eg young carers)? Then do please nominate them for the County’s Courage Award in order for us to recognise the selflessness of giving to others.
Please see criteria in downloads below for further details. Applications need to be with the Chairman of the Awards Committee by the 1 May and 1 November respectively.
The Hampshire Rose
The Hampshire Rose is awarded to leaders, commissioners and appointment holders when they leave Girlguiding or reach age 65, whichever is sooner, having completed a minimum of 30 year’s service in Girlguiding of which 15 years must be in Hampshire West.
The County Thank You Brooch
The Thank You Brooch is not a formal award, but a way of showing gratitude and recognition of service to Hampshire West and is given at the discretion of the County Commissioner. The Thank You Brooch can be presented to any adult member or supporter who has made a significant and special contribution to a guiding event, activity or role.
Guidelines for letters of support:-
As with all award applications confidentiality should be maintained. Please ensure that neither the nominee nor any other members of her family are made aware of the application.
- How do you know this person?
- How long have you known her?
- In the roles you knew her in how was she outstanding? Can you tell us about the impact of her work – giving specific examples.
- Describe her contribution to supporting adults within Guiding.
- Describe her contribution to supporting girls and young women within Guiding.
- Describe any other ways she has made an outstanding contribution e.g. events, projects etc.
- Has she made any contributions outside Guiding which may be useful to know (although it is not a requirement)?
- Why do you think she deserves an award?
- From what you write, how much will it tell us about this person and how well will we know her after reading it?
The ideas above are possible suggestions on areas of information about the applicant which could be submitted in support of the application. These can be sent by letter or email. It is helpful if they can be typed.
