Please be reminded that a qualified First Aider is required at all unit meetings. If this is not possible, please speak to your commissioner to see if First Aid cover can be provided by another member in a one-off situation.
1st Response
You also need to complete the short 1st Response e-learning which can be found on Girlguiding’s Learning Platform. It is recommended you complete all modules including the e-learning over no more than 3 months. The e-learning can be completed before or after the full training course and must be done before your qualification can be recorded on GO and for you to be recognised as a first aider in Girlguiding.
The information regarding the updated 1st Response course can be now be found on Girlguiding’s website – the link below will take you to the page: https://www.girlguiding.org.uk/information-for-volunteers/learning-and-development/first-aid-training/1st-response-training/
We are looking to run sessions on weekday evenings and at weekends to give you a choice.
Courses can also be booked by a Division. To do this:
- A representative of the Division should contact Sheila Caine, First Response Training Co-ordinator at first_response_coordinator@gghw.org.uk with a date (a choice of dates is preferable) and a venue.
- Leaders should then apply using the online application.
- If there are spaces on the course they will be offered to people from neighbouring Divisions. Forthcoming sessions will be posted on this website.
Who Can Teach 1st Response?
If you are thinking of extending your skills to deliver 1st Response courses, the instructor must have:
- A Girlguiding Trainer Qualification or any adult teaching or training qualification (this could even be something like a sports coach).
- A current, valid first aid qualification which involved at least 16 hours of training and an assessment.
- Up-to-date and working first aid knowledge (you must be able to answer questions).
Doctors and nurses can run 1st Response courses if they can show current experience of first aid skills by providing sufficient evidence in their training portfolio.
