Hampshire Libraries Summer Reading Challenge - Volunteer Opportunity for all Rangers and Young Leaders
Hampshire libraries always need volunteers to help with the challenge which will run between 3rd July to 18th September. Volunteers will help children complete their reading record and listen to them talk about the books they read. It’s a great way to contribute to the local community as the annual reading challenge is a huge boost to youngsters’ literacy which can otherwise dip over the summer.
Volunteers can be flexible about times and locations. Anyone interested can ask at their local library or visit their volunteering page: https://bit.ly/2U2T6zF
The Young Leader Qualification
The Young Leader qualification (YLQ) is designed to help you take an active, positive part in running a Rainbow, Brownie or Guide unit. It is open to anyone in guiding aged 14 to 18.
You'll develop skills in leadership, communication and team working – all of which make impressive additions to any CV. Working towards the qualification will also help you to contribute more to your local unit leadership team and become more confident in your role. Finally, if you decide to move on to the adult leadership qualification, you'll find that you've already completed several of the required modules.
The Young Leader qualification consists of 6 modules:
Module 1 – GO! and sectional training
Module 2 – Leadership
Module 3 – Planning
Module 4 – Working with girls
Module 5 – Local guiding
Module 6 – Your role in guiding
If you haven't already done so, speak to your unit leader or local commissioner so she can get you the support you need to get started on your qualification.
