The Young Leader Qualification
The Young Leader qualification (YLQ) is designed to help you take an active, positive part in running a Rainbow, Brownie or Guide unit. It is open to anyone in guiding aged 14 to 18.
You'll develop skills in leadership, communication and team working – all of which make impressive additions to any CV. Working towards the qualification will also help you to contribute more to your local unit leadership team and become more confident in your role. Finally, if you decide to move on to the adult leadership qualification, you'll find that you've already completed several of the required modules.
The Young Leader qualification consists of 6 modules:
Module 1 – GO! and sectional training
Module 2 – Leadership
Module 3 – Planning
Module 4 – Working with girls
Module 5 – Local guiding
Module 6 – Your role in guiding
If you haven't already done so, speak to your unit leader or local commissioner so she can get you the support you need to get started on your qualification.
Young Leaders should check the email address on their GO record and keep an eye out for invites via email to County Young Leader events which take place each autumn.
